Germination time varies with variety, so maintain seed flats over several weeks and transplant as each variety emerges. Sow seed on a well-drained, friable mixture of half potting soil and half sand. Cover with thin layer of pure sand. Allow flat to absorb water from bottom until moist, then cover.
